My fascination with this Offit interview is that the host is also an academic doctor and not a layperson trying to generate interest in their podcast by getting a name like Offit on the show.
In that candid 7 second clip where Offit is actually being accurate, in that you can never say that there is no link between MMR and autism, he is demonstrating a good grasp of how science is done. It is impossible to prove no connection because one may very well exist beyond what is presently known.
This is in complete contrast to what he is doing on this interview, ignoring the experts in his own field who support the idea that there maybe much more to AIDS than HIV infection, the historical data of infectious disease fatalities that were in decline prior to the introduction of vaccines, the puzzling fact that polio lessened with better sanitation in this country but got worse in other countries, etc. etc.
The question I have is whether Offit knows what he is doing or not. Does he know that he is lying? Or is he unable to see that he is wrong? Is he two-faced or is he delusional?
These questions go for the host as well who goes so far as to call RFK Jr. a "crank" and a hypocrite for making millions by attacking a trillion dollar industry. Are these two really that obtuse? My fear is that they are. Liars are not as dangerous at powerful people who are delusional.
Well done. In addition, Kennedy is alluding to terrain theory in his Fauci book, which has largely been ignored primarily due to allopathic designs on monopolizing the disease care market using synthetic drugs that can be patented for profit. We know due to FDA, CDC and media capture, the placebo drug trials are fraught with fraud, as evidenced by any number of drug recalls.
Tremendous! Thank You! There is no way i could stomach listening to either one of those two. Astonishing offit’s obvious lack of character—and he’s concerned about children? well, i hope they are double checking his “data” on his “diarrhea” jab. you’d think he would shut up just based on that. maybe he needs to self inoculate; given his diarrhea of the mouth.
Dr. Offit was a friend of RFK Jr's and was a guy RFK reached out to when he first learned about thimerosal and mercury in the blood. Offit gave him a study that showed mercury cleared our the blood but then RFK followed up noting another study finding that while it was out of the blood it was because it was found in the brains of the test subjects. At which point he ghosted him.
In Offit's book, The False Prophets of Autism or whatever its called, I had to stop reading because he was lamenting raising concern about mercury in vaccines as it may cause the American public to go crazy like they did with silicone breast implants. So because people may sue if products aren't tested for safety properly, the public should be lied to, is what he implies but never actually says. That was when I gave up reading anything from that guy. Despite trying to avoid his thoughts on anything, I did stumble across him smearing Rachel Carson for being too reckless in her critiques of DDT and other pesticides because of Malaria. The guy is awful.
Thanks for that info about Kennedy and Offit. It's very revealing. Offit is too devoted to the medical system to allow himself to think critically, or else he is straight up evil.
I don't get this approach by Offit et al of throwing mud at somebody to then invalidate their arguments. What he is saying is that if a person of weak moral character makes an argument, it has to be invalid because the said person does not measure up in moral terms.
Even if RFK Jr. believes in miasma theory, his arguments -- the very ones you make subsequently -- are the basis on which his entire claim stands and that is still true irrespective of the miasma theory. The arguments stand on their own.
Offit is claiming he is right because of his pedigree. This is called casteism. This also means he is out of arguments.
“What he is saying is that if a person of weak moral character makes an argument, it has to be invalid because the said person does not measure up in moral terms.”
Many thanks Dr. Setty for this well documented factual and rigorous account of a story that has been relentless distorted for reasons that I can only speculated on, yet deeply deplore. Alas, human beings have also been deceitful, especially when their social status is perceived to be at high risk to be questioned and deemed unwarranted. It's so unfortunate that our society value the promotion of conformity and lies over real progress for the general good for all. Kudoo for calling it.
I get nauseous just listening to the first few minutes. Don’t expose yourself to offit lies like these if you’re unprepared. He’s sickening and is denying toxicity exists!!! His thoughts are toxic!
Fabulous piece Madhava. Offit, quite obviously sitting on his Stone Harbor porch, talking to some Joe Pesci look-a-like throwing spitballs at RFKJR. I can’t believe that guy teaches biology to kids at Columbia. Why don’t you ask Offit why he won’t debate Bobby in a public forum? Bobby has been calling for that for years and Offit just ignores him.

I want him to file a defamation lawsuit again Salon. On Feb 19, 2025 they wrote the most scathing smear piece I've read in a while. RFK's plan to make America healthy again? Send people with mental health conditions to farms. Sub title: RFK Jr claims replacing psychological care with unpaid work on "wellness farms" would be voluntary. They claim he will be punishing and shaming people at these labor camps while also calling him a eugenicist. Unbelievable! Thank God he is so strong!
Dr Offit is like most of his colleagues, he believes in his religion of "science" and dogma. Real science means nothing to him. The germ theory isn't a even a theory, it's a disproven hypothesis.
When you were using the word "germ" I was getting a bit confused. I assume you were referring to definition 3 from Merriam Webster:
germ noun
ˈjərm
plural germs
1 a: a small mass of living substance capable of developing into an organism or one of its parts
b: the embryo with the scutellum of a cereal grain that is usually separated from the starchy endosperm during milling
2 : something that initiates development or serves as an origin : rudiments, beginning
3 : a microorganism causing disease : a pathogenic agent (such as a bacterium or virus) broadly : microorganism
A germ is a microorganism, of course they exist. Are they pathogenic agents? No study has shown this to be the case. Can they be transmitted to another human? Again, no study has shown this to be the case.
Makes you wonder why we need vaccines in the first place.
Just for the record, I believe RFK Jr. is right. I would say that most people would agree that environmental toxins can deplete the effectiveness of the immune system ending up in disease states more often when exposed to germs.
Obviously microorganisms exist. My opinion is that they can be pathogenic. I see this daily in the hospital. The drainage of abcesses (pockets of bacteria and white blood cells that are attacking them), kidney infections resulting from blockages of ureters resulting in septic shock with cultured bacteria which are identified and then treated with appropriate antibiotics that lead to a timely recovery.
It's quite a stretch to say that no study has shown microorganisms an be pathogenic.
Terrain theory is about susceptibility. There can be any number of potentially infective microorganisms around, but they won't affect you if you're not susceptible at that point in time. Different factors can affect or compromise susceptibility such as change of weather, stress and fatigue, etc. I totally follow this as a theory and in practice. But I don't believe there are no viruses. I understand the explanation that they've never been purely isolated, but that doesn't mean there are no infective microorganisms, whatever you want to call them. So, glad to read of your direct clinical experience.
Yes, it is all a confusion, not least because of the temptation many medicine men and women fall into of believing all of their medical practices and hypotheses are proven. But, from cursory reading of a few medical research history books, a smattering of philosophy, history, methods, and logic 101, and a long list of responses from public health agencies all over the world to freedom of info requests to provide proof that a virus to combat which those institutions have paid considerable public money to buy a vaccine, I think they must be completely ignorant - blinded by faith, perhaps? Because, so far no proof is to be seen - be it by Jenner (ha!), Pasteur, Koch or other researchers who tried to find it or by any pharmaceutical company, that any micro-organism, partially detected by any means whatsoever, has successfully been shown to carry the disease it is believed to embody, nor has there been a successful proof of transmission in any controlled investigation. There is only the discovery of microbes in tissue and secretions of the sick. This is evidence only of a relationship, not of causative relationship. And it is also complicated by the fact that said microbes are found in perfectly healthy people too.

yep he's toxic
He's greedy too. That's the reason why he's been given the nickname Paul for Profit!

textbook Ad Hominem
That was a great comment you left for Offit. However, he obviously has no ethics or a conscience, so it will likely be ignored.

I notice Offit never speaks of Kennedy catching him in a lie about Mercury and the Burbacher study, Paul never seems to speak of this.
Did u mean Burbacher, 2005 study?
Autocorrect🤪
Dr. Paul Offit is a liar.
I get nauseous just listening to the first few minutes. Don’t expose yourself to offit lies like these if you’re unprepared. He’s sickening and is denying toxicity exists!!! His thoughts are toxic!
I couldn't listen to the whole thing either. Just left some comments.....

Stupid reasons like "don't want to give him a platform to spread disinformation," etc.

A doctor, more than most, is only as good as his worst deed.
Brilliant piece. Thanks for writing it.
Perhaps a defamation suit is in order?

Can you imagine someone calling a FREE effective addiction recovery program "unpaid labor"?
That anyone could watch his documentary and come to that conclusion is ridiculous!

I would agree with that approach.
Excellent work again Dr Setty

I believe it's the environmental toxins and poisons that make us ill.
I should have said no virus has been shown to be pathogenic, show us a study that indicates this when proper isolation has been achieved.

Exactly, computer "science".
